Million Hearts March

A million hearts. One safe place. We're building toward a permanent, affordable, unapologetically LGBTQ+ community — a place where nobody has to shrink themselves to stay safe. This is the dream UBeLong was built to fund.

Our target

Pulse 11th Anniversary

Our goal: hold the first Million Hearts March gathering on the 11th anniversary of Pulse — as a living memorial, not just a fundraiser.

Where this actually stands — no spin

Million Hearts March is an idea in motion, not a finished thing. We are currently in the process of obtaining 501(c)(3) status. Until that is granted, we are not accepting donations of any kind — no bricks, no pledges, no "founding donor" tiers, nothing.

That's deliberate. We want every dollar to be tax-deductible and every donor protected before a single one is collected. If you came here ready to give: thank you — genuinely. Please help in one of these other ways instead, and we'll tell you the moment giving opens.

💔

Why a place like this has to exist

These aren't talking points. They're the reason the dream won't leave us alone.

42%

of transgender adults in the U.S. have attempted suicide in their lifetime — and 81% have thought about it.

Williams Institute, UCLA School of Law (2023)
28%

of LGBTQ+ youth have experienced homelessness or housing instability. Those who have are far likelier to attempt suicide.

The Trevor Project (2022)
2,413

anti-LGBTQ+ hate crime incidents were reported to the FBI in 2024 — making us the third most-targeted group in America.

FBI Hate Crime Statistics, via GLAAD (2025)
49

We have never stopped counting.

On June 12, 2016, forty-nine people were killed at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. They had gone out dancing. They were in the one place where they felt safe.

A permanent memorial to the Pulse 49 — and to every LGBTQ+ life taken by hate — is not an add-on to this project. It's the foundation. Everything else we build, we build around it.

That's why we're aiming for June 12, 2027, the 11th anniversary. Not a product launch. A promise kept.

🏘️

What we want to build

A real place, on real land, that a person can move to and simply exhale.

🏠

Affordable homes

Modular and container-built housing, designed for genuine affordability — because "safe" that you can't afford isn't safe.

🌸

Memorial gardens

A permanent, tended place for the Pulse 49 and every life lost to anti-LGBTQ+ violence. Quiet, beautiful, ours.

🏢

Community center

Support groups, health navigation, job help, classes, and a front desk staffed by someone who gets it.

🛡️

Real security

Controlled access, lighting, and trained on-site staff. Designed with residents, not imposed on them.

🎉

Space to celebrate

Weddings, Pride, drag, dancing, holidays. Joy is a safety measure too — maybe the most important one.

🌱

Built to last

Solar, water-wise landscaping, and community gardens, so the place stays affordable to run for decades.

Where? We're keeping that question open — on purpose.

The original plan named a specific 160-acre parcel in Casa Grande, Arizona. That was more than a year ago, and we're not going to pretend nothing changed: that parcel may be gone, and the price may no longer make sense.

So the honest answer today is that we are actively looking for the right land at the right price — most likely in Arizona or the wider American Southwest, because the climate allows year-round outdoor events and construction costs stay workable. But we'd rather find the right place than defend an old pin on a map.

Know of acreage, a seller, a donor, or a developer who should hear about this? That's one of the most useful things anyone can bring us right now. Send us a land lead →

🧱

The Million Hearts March itself

Inspired by the marches that came before us — but the thing we're building is permanent.

The idea is simple: a million hearts, each one a brick. Every brick carries a name, a tribute, or a message — and becomes a physical part of the pathways, the memorial, and the walls. A march you can walk through a hundred years from now.

Digital Heart

$1 (planned)

A message, tribute, or memory added to the digital memorial wall — searchable, permanent, and readable on-site.

  • Your message or tribute
  • Listed on the digital wall
  • Searchable community archive
  • Scannable on-site once built
Not yet available 🧱

Physical Brick

$10 (planned)

An engraved brick laid into the real pathways and memorial walls, with a record of exactly where yours sits.

  • Custom engraving
  • Placed in pathway, memorial, or wall
  • Location record + certificate
  • Photo once it's installed

To be completely clear: these are planned tiers shown so you can see the concept. They are not for sale, and no money is being collected, until Million Hearts March holds 501(c)(3) status.

🛤️

The honest roadmap

Where we are, what's next, and what only happens if the community shows up.

  1. Get the 501(c)(3) In progress

File and obtain federal nonprofit status, appoint a real board, and set up transparent books. Nothing else can honestly start until this is done.

  2. Find the land Next

Identify acreage in Arizona or the greater Southwest at a price that works, with water, road access, and a county that will permit what we're building.

  3. Open the Million Hearts March Next

Once we're a registered nonprofit, open the digital wall and brick program so anyone can put their heart in the foundation for a dollar.

  4. The first gathering — June 12, 2027 Goal

Mark the 11th anniversary of Pulse together, on the land if we have it, wherever we can if we don't. Memorial first, celebration second.

  5. Break ground Later

Memorial gardens and the community center first — the heart before the walls — then the first phase of homes.

  6. Open the doors Later

People move in. Somebody sleeps through the night for the first time in years. That's the whole point.

How UBeLong pays for this

This is why UBeLong caps its founder's salary — so this page can stop being a dream.

UBeLong is a membership community, not a charity — but it was built to feed one. After running costs and a founder salary capped at $75,000 a year, never more, everything left over goes to Million Hearts March and to the LGBTQ+ nonprofits our members choose. Members can also direct $1/month or $8/year of their membership to the cause of their choice.

You can't give money yet — but you can give this

Four things worth more than a donation right now.

We're pre-501(c)(3), so we can't take your money. Honestly, at this stage these are worth more anyway.

Million Hearts March is UBeLong's nonprofit arm and is not yet a registered 501(c)(3). No donations are being solicited or accepted. Contributions are not tax-deductible at this time. Statistics on this page are cited to their original sources and were verified at publish time.
